Jeff Page joins Boerne PD
Ex-SAPD officer takes Boerne post
By Zeke MacCormack zeke@express-news.net Friday, October 7, 2011 Four years of retirement was enough for Jeff Page, a former deputy chief in the San Antonio Police Department who this week began work as the new assistant police chief in Boerne. Page, 53, was hired by Jim Kohler, who will be sworn in Friday afternoon as Boerne's new police chief, replacing Gary Miller, who's retiring after 22 years with the department based in Kendall County. “It's been a good run,” said Miller, who will be on vacation until Jan. 6, his official last day. Kohler, Miller's assistant chief since 2003, said Page's 27 years with SAPD provided valuable experience, knowledge and training. “He's a proven leader,” said Kohler, 46, who has been a Boerne police officer since 1990. Retiree Andy Vaquera is Chairman of Civil Service Commission for Bexar County.
![]() Retiree and contributor to CoffeeCops, Andy Vaquera announced that he was appointed by another retiree, Sheriff Amadeo Ortiz to sit on the board of the Bexar County Civil Service Commission. Last month, Andy was voted to be the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission by his fellow board members.
Andres Vaquera Jr. retired from SAPD in 1996 after a long career of chasing the bad guys. However, he did not rest on his laurels. As a reservist, Andy went on the achieve a rank most of us can only dream of, Chief Master Sergeant. Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt) is the ninth, and highest, enlisted rank in the U.S. Air Force. Attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant is the pinnacle of an Air Force enlisted member's career. By Federal law, only one percent of the Air Force enlisted force may hold the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. We are proud of Andy Vaquera’s achievements and wish him well in his new assignment as chairman and leader of the Civil Service Commission for Bexar County. Retiree becomes Ordained Minister

David Juarez becomes Chief of Police at OLLU
![]() David Juarez
Chief of Police Our Lady of the Lake University David retired in 2007 from SAPD after a 26 year career beginning with his graduation from the academy in February 1981. David had a very interesting a career with SAPD. He became a member of one of the first directed patrol units back in the late 80’s at Prue Road Substation. He then had an opportunity, as an officer, to work in the homicide office for a couple of years. At that time, patrol officers helped the detectives file all the family assault type cases and protective orders. When that position was disbanded he went back to patrol. He was then offered a job in Research and Planning where he worked for about a year and a half. While still assigned to Research and Planning, he attended a composite Artist/Forensics class in Arizona and brought that training back to SAPD. His position in Research and Planning was eliminated and again he went back to patrol. Not long after that, he was offered a position back in Homicide under the Sex Crimes Unit doing the sex offender registrations and working with detectives in that unit. It was in this unit that he had the opportunity to use the composite art skills he learned and did over 100 composites for our department as well as several other outside agencies helping to solve various crimes. After a couple of years his position in Homicide was again disbanded and he went back to patrol. He stayed out on patrol another seven years and retired in February 2007. Like most of us, David stayed at home about a year and a half to get his bearings and decide what to do with his life. He started looking for a place to work again. He ended up at Our Lady of the Lake University starting out as a patrol officer. After being there as an officer for about seven months, the chief at that time decided to move on elsewhere and he was asked to fill in as the “interim” chief until they decided on someone to fill the position. David was interim Chief for almost two years until they officially announced the position and he applied. On March 18, 2011 David was offered the permanent position. David has been married for twenty five years and has three children, two of whom are attending OLLU. Last we communicated with Chief Juarez, he said, “This job is fantastic and I plan to be here as long as they will keep me.” Congratulations to David Juarez Retirees Attend Honda Gold Wing Road Riders Convention.
