Neva Jean Ellis  - Wife of Retired Sergeant James Ellis
 
Neva Jean Ellis, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas.  She was born on March 11, 1938, in San Antonio, Texas, to Bessie and George W. Bichsel. George Bichsel went on to later be a Police Chief of the San Antonio Police Dept in the 1960's.  
 
She met James on a blind date, and they were married in June of 1957. Sgt Ellis retired in 1992 from the SAPD.  Neva is survived by her husband of 65 years, James Henry Ellis, as well as extended family and dear friends. Their children John (Deceased), Lisa (Deceased), Paul, and Susan.
 
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary.

Reverend James Paul Worley - SAPD Chaplain

The Reverend James Paul Worley, 75 of Cibolo, Texas passed away early morning on Wednesday July 6, 2022, peacefully in his home. Paul was born March 19, 1947, in Houston, Texas. Paul is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Ruth Worley. He left Military Duty to follow God’s calling into the Episcopal Church as a Priest and transferred into the United States Navy Reserve. Paul completed his military career as a Naval Commander with 36 collective years of service working with both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corp as a Chaplain.
 
He extended his calling as a Chaplain working with the San Antonio Police Department, San Antonio Rodeo Livestock Committee and The Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.
Paul served in many areas of the Episcopal Church. Paul believed in supporting the youth of his community, helping with the Ag Mechanics at the San Antonio Rodeo, multiple youth groups and the Resurrection and Redeemer Episcopal Day Schools.

Paul is survived by his four children, J. Patrick Worley, Tiffany Marie Andrews-Hooper, Stacy Dianne Stulsas and Janet Lyne Worley

Michelle passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 18, 2022. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, on June 10, 1960 to Charlotte Bouwens and William A. Simms Jr. Michelle was a lifelong San Antonio native, a proud graduate of Incarnate Word High School and the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she acquired her B.A. and her Master’s in Educational Leadership.

She is survived by her husband, soulmate, and best friend, Leroy Barrera, a Retired San Antonio Police Officer; her beloved son, Michael Barrera
 
Visitation and a Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas.
Please join us in-person or via live stream. Flowers are welcome by the family.

Maria Esther Mares, 84, of Elmendorf passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 16, 2022. She is the mother of Retired SAPD Officer Miguel "Mike" Mares. 

She was born on August 25, 1937 in Runge, TX                                                                                                             
Maria is survived by her children Cindy Gomez,Debra Botello,Yolanda Huizar,
Miguel Mares Jr.,Ruben Salinas,Albert Gonzalez, grandchildren,great-grandchildren
and Baby Sister Elida Perez.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church-Loire Parish from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the reciting of the rosary at 7:00 pm.
Funeral Mass will be 10 am Thursday, May 26, 2022 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church followed immediately by the interment at First Memorial Park 20567 TX-SH 16-Von Ormy, TX.

Julie Ann Roberts Bourquin, of San Antonio, passed away on March 20, 2022 at the age of 81. She was born February 26, 1941 in Saline, Louisiana, one of eleven children of Simon Douglas Roberts and Carry Frey Roberts.

Julie grew up in Saline, Louisiana and graduated from Saline High School. For thirty-nine years, she worked for AT&T. On November 19, 1976, she married James Clifford Bourquin in San Antonio.

Survivors include her husband, James C. Bourquin; son, Jerry Wayne (Nicole) Goss; granddaughter, Lauren Goss; great-grandson, Carter Poole; sister, Marie Simpson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joe Lane Goss; sisters, Aline Brown, Christine Bobbitt, and Ruby Morgan; brothers, Clinton Roberts, Ezra Roberts, Charlie Roberts, Billy Roberts, Derwood Roberts, and Kenneth Roberts.

Visitation will be Thurs., March 24, 2022 from 3 pm to 7 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 5:30 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 pm on Fri., March 25, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 4201 De Zavala Road, San Antonio, Texas 78249. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville, Texas.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mrs. Esther F. Celaya, 92 years of age, who entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 10, 2022.
 
Esther was the grandmother of Detective Cynthia Celaya (FIU) of our Department and the mother of Retired Sergeant Ernest Celaya.
 
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, beginning at 5:00 pm at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road.
A church service will be held in her honor at Life Church, 4424 SW Loop 410 at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
Graveside services will follow at San Fernando Cemetery No. 3.
 
We extend our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

Eli M. Ortiz
Eli Ortiz, age 87, passed away February 14, 2022 in Bulverde, TX. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 10, 1935.
He served with the San Antonio Police Department for 42 years, in the Radio Shop as a civilian employee. He assisted FBI, DEA with investigations dealing with communication surveillance.
He retired from SAPD and finished his tour as the FCC Southwest Region Radio Communications Coordinator. Eli was always ready to help Law Enforcement
The visitation will be at 6 pm, Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Rosary to be recited at 7pm.
The Funeral Mass will be at 10 am, Thursday, February 24, 2022 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78230.

Jesus Z. Sanchez went to be with the Lord at the age of 91 on Saturday, September 25, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by those he loved. He was born on February 1, 1930, in Crystal City, Texas.  He is survived by his beloved wife Zoila R. Sanchez; his children, 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many loving friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough with a rosary beginning at 7:00 pm. Seating will be limited due to social distancing protocol, and everyone entering will be asked to wear a mask.

Danielle Howard, my beautiful daughter, Danielle, passed away on Tuesday at the way too Young age of 27.

I am still processing all of this. I do want to thank all of the friends that have reached out to me with condolences. My family and I WILL get through this trying time.

We will have a Memorial service for Dani with details soon.
I Thank You all again for your kind words.

Affectionately known to all as Jane, was called to into the presence of her Lord and Savior, on Friday, August 13, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas after a brief illness.  Jane was born May 15, 1935 in Big Wells, Texas.

She graduated from Big Wells High School in 1954 as the class Valedictorian and was very active in sports and social clubs.
Jane attended San Antonio College in San Antonio, Texas where she got her Secretarial Degree. Jane began her working career in the retail area while in college.

Jane is survived by: Son: Robert Ruiz (wife Eva) , Robert Jacob Ruiz, Richard Jeremy Ruiz, and Erika Noemi Peterson.
Jane was preceded in death by her beloved Husband Fred and Parents: Bernabé and Antonia Ponce.
Visitation/viewing will be Wednesday August 18, 2021 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Celebration of Life services will be on Thursday August 19, 2021 at 11:00 am at:

Frances “Frankie” Mims Turner - Mother of Kenny Hagan (Retired SAPD)
She entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 9, 2021 at the age of 87 in San Antonio, Texas.   She was born in New Hope, South Carolina on January 30, 1934.

Fran is preceded in death by her parents; sister Nora Kirvin and grandsons, Andrew Zinsmeyer, Christopher Dunford. She is survived by her children John Hagen, Kenny Hagen, Cynthia Hellsten, Rosie Bemis, Lorrie Zinsmeyer and Kerry Dunford.

She enjoyed traveling, hiking, camping, raising birds along with other animals and in her younger years riding motorcycles. She loved her family with all her heart.

Visitation: Friday, August 20th from 10am-11am with the Funeral Service to begin at 11am at Castle Ridge Mortuary North.     Interment will follow the Funeral Service at Helotes Cemetery.

SAPD Chaplain Henry Bell
It is with great sadness to learn that Chaplain Henry Bell has been received by the Lord.

He was a familiar face an faithful servant to the San Antonio Police Department family for many years. His personality, laughter, and powerful prayers will be missed.  His last assignment was with South Patrol.

Public Viewing will be at the "Tried Stone Baptist Church, 551 Canton, SAT 78202 on Tuesday, July 20,2021. 500pm - 700pm

The family has set aside 700pm - 800pm for Officers to pay their respects and will not be open to the public.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 21 at 1100am at Calvary Baptist Church, 6142 FM 78, SAT 78244
