PETE CASIAS Jr. , Retired SAPD Captain Pete Casias, Jr. SAPD (Ret) passed away on March 1, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on February 6, 1936 in Somerset, Texas to Pedro G. Casias, Sr. and Anita Tijerina Casias. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dolores Diaz Casias; daughter, Gilda Robinson (Davis); sons, Pete Casias, III (Cristela), Roland Casias and Ralph Casias (Nora); sister, Gloria Langnar (Paul) Pete served in the US Army from 1954-1957, he attained the rank of Sergeant and served in the 11th Airborne Division (Angels).He served in the Army reserves until 1963. In 1959 Pete joined the San Antonio Police Department where he served for 31 years. There he promoted through the ranks to Captain, always striving as a progressive innovator to improve policies, ideas and methods in policing. In 1987 Pete was the Commander of the security detail for the Papal visit of Pope John Paul II, where he had the honor of meeting the Pope. He inspired his sons Pete and Roland and they followed in his footsteps, both also retiring from the SAPD. He was active in the community and was a member of the Alamo Silver Wings and a supporter of LULAC Council #2. Pete was crowned REY FEO from 1978-1979 and enjoyed his royalty duties. Pete touched many lives and he will be missed by all. SERVICES Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 6:00pm-9:00pm, with a Rosary at 7:00pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 9:30am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, with interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
