Fire & Police Retiree Luncheon

The Annual Luncheon has been approved by the Exec. Committee. It will be held at the
Shriner Hall on October the 13th, 2021 a Wednesday.

Doors will open at 11:00 am, meal served at 12:00 pm and doors close at 2:00 pm.

Prep has already started with Earnest Gay in Charge! He is need of help.
Help has also been requested to serve tea, coffee and cake.

It was also suggested that no cost be passed on to the Pensioners Asso. Members.
Therefore the $5.00 RSVP fee will not be charged this year.
RSVP will still be needed if attending. (The $5.00 RSVP fee will be reinstated in 2022)

The Pension Board gave us approval to hold our Monthly Member Meeting in the Pension Office.
Therefore the July 13th, 2021 Monthly Meeting will be held at the Pension Office at 1603 W Coker Loop, San Antonio, TX

There will be NO meal served at our meetings until it has been voted to resume the meals.

All members attending the meetings MUST obey any and all rules posted by the Pension Fund. This includes social distancing and or masks.

SAPOA Blue Santa Golf Tournament

SAPOA Annual Blue Santa Golf Tournament
This year marks the 30th Anniversary of this event.

The annual Harris/Dailey-Wells Blue Santa Golf Tournament presented by Michelob Ultra will be held Friday, November 19th at TPC San Antonio (23808 Resort Parkway, SATX 78261).

Registration and breakfast begin at 7:00 a.m. with a Shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Lunch, raffle drawings, and an awards ceremony will follow the tournament at High Velocity inside the JW Marriott Hill Country Resort.

All proceeds from this event will go toward the SAPOA Blue Santa Program and will be used to purchase food, clothing, and toys for underprivileged children and low-income families during the Holidays.

Covid -19 First Responder Presumption Bill

SB - 22 Covid-19 First Responder Presumption Bill has been signed and takes effect immediately.
This Bill covers those still on the job as Retired but Active Officers in other jurisdictions.
Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, CLEAT has worked on presumption since Covid hit in Feb of 2020 and has worked diligently to ensure that SB 22 addressed our concerns to adequately protect officers and their families.

The Covid-19 first responder presumption bill has been signed and takes effect immediately. Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, CLEAT has worked on presumption since Covid hit in Feb of 2020 and we worked diligently to ensure that SB 22 addressed our concerns to adequately protect officers and their families.

Any peace officer, detention officer, county jailer, or TDCJ corrections officers who has filed a workers comp claim related to Covid-19 and had that claim denied can now request the claim be reconsidered.

Any of the above who was impacted by Covid and did not file a claim can still do so for 6 months. If you were forced to use your own sick or vacation time or pay out of pocket for Covid related expenses, you can request reimbursement.

The San Antonio Black Police Officers Coalition is sponsoring a "Family Bike Ride" on Friday, July 02, 1000am.

This is a FREE FAMILY ACTIVITY to kick off the summer.
The route begins at 3635 E. Houston and ends at South Side Lions Park for Hotdogs, Hamburgers and Chips.

With July 04 Holiday approaching this is a reminder of the Park Rules.
ALL members are to enforce, as well as, abide by all Park Rules. Violations of these rules may result in the member having their Park privileges suspended.

Suspensions are determined by the Board of Directors. Members facing a suspension will be afforded the opportunity to address the Board. The Boards’ decision is final.

Absolutely no persons are allowed on the property unless they are a member OR the guest of a member of the Benevolent Fund.

Members will not allow guest to enter the Park without them or allow guests to remain after the member leaves the Park.

Members are responsible for the actions of their guests. Members can be held financially responsible for any damages they or their guests may cause in the Park.

Wife of Retiree passes away

Obituary for Alice Marie Kalka
October 28, 1928 - June 22, 2021

Alice Marie Whalan Kalka was born on October 28, 1928 in Gonzales, Texas on the Whalan farm. She graduated from Gonzales High School in May of 1946.
She went on to marry Charles (Charlie) Kalka (Deceased) SAPD Officer, of Bandera, TX in 1949. They had 61 wonderful years together.

She went on to become a Bexar County Election Judge from 1997-2005. Upon retiring from this post, she supported the San Antonio Fire & Police Pensioner’s Association, where she volunteered time in a few capacities including roll book. She is an active member in good standings to this day. She is an active member at St. Jerome’ Catholic Church where she volunteered and donated food, time and help. True to her southern and country upbringing she also volunteered and became a Life Member of the San Antonio Livestock Show

Alice is preceded in death by her husband Charlie Kalka, sons Charles Jr and William Kalka, granddaughter Stephanie Kalka and brother Louis Whalan.
Alice has many family, friends and “family” that she loved dearly and kept up with through the years.

ohn Noyola - Son of Retired Officer Trinidad Noyola

John Anthony Noyola, Age 41, passed away on June 10,2021.

He was the son of Guadalupe and Trinidad Noyola. He is characterized as having a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh.
Services were handled on June 19 at Hurley Funeral Home, Pleasanton, Texas. Interment followed in Sotelo Cemetary outside of Pleasanton.

George Mason Scott - Retired SAPD Officer

George Mason Scott, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2021 in Thousand Oaks, California.
He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 5, 1936 to Katherine Seale and George E. Scott.

George was a career San Antonio police officer who rose to the rank of Lieutenant.
George retired in 1992

Wife of Retiree passes away

Wife of Retired Police Officer Richard Valdes passed away.

Donna Lynn (Johnson) Valdes / April 29, 1951-June 8, 2021

Donna Lynn Johnson Valdes was born April 29, 1951 to Avery and Diane Johnson in Enid, Oklahoma. She passed away peacefully in her home on June 8, 2021,
surrounded by her loving family.
Donna met the love of her life, Ricardo, in 1969 while they both worked for the San Antonio Police Department.
They were married February 14, 1970 and spent the next fifty-one years devoted to each other.
She was the life of the party and her ebullient laughter could be heard at family gatherings and celebrations. Donna was a devoted friend, sharing her love through thoughtful gifts, cards, and letters. Donna and the love of her life, Ricardo, whom she lovingly nicknamed “Ted”, shared many adventures together and also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Avery and Diane Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Ricardo A. Valdes, Jr., daughters, son Ricardo; grandchildren, siblings as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 7pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78230.

Interment will be at Ft Sam Cemetery

Retiree's wife passes away

Arlene Mitchie Sefcik age 83, of San Antonio, died on Thursday, June 10, 2021.
Arlene was born on June 9, 1938, to Emil and Judith Mitchie in San Antonio. A graduate of Providence High School in 1956. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Sefcik; brothers-in-law, Richard, Robert, Kenneth, and Emil Jr Sefcik.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, George Sefcik; granddaughter, Taylor Lynn Lance and husband, Brandon; great-grandson, Graylen Lance; sisters-in-law, Rose, Ann, and Helen Sefcik; cousins, Dennis Koudelka and wife, Irene, Nick Koudelka and wife, Sandie, Richard Branecky and wife, Grace, Wayne Kunkler and wife, Joan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
