Firearms Qualification Resumes

  Attention All Retired SAPD Officers!

The SAPD Training Academy Firearms staff will be holding retiree
qualifications on the following dates: August 6th & 7th.

Each day there will be a morning qualification at 0900 and
an afternoon qualification at 1400.

When you call to sign up please specify which time you would like to sign up for as well as the date.
We are limited to 30 shooters per time slot so we will absolutely be taking no walk-ins.

If you are NOT signed up for the specified time/date, you will NOT be
allowed to qualify.  NO exceptions.

As usual, you will need your firearm, at least two magazines, a holster, 50
rounds of ammo and a check payable to COSA.                                                      

MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES EXCEPT ON THE FIRING LINE, NO
EXCEPTIONS.  Your own eye and ear protection is highly recommended.

Call the range staff at 210-207-6229 during normal business hours to get on
the schedule. September and October schedules to be posted soon.

There were 13 Pensioners on line for the July meeting. 26 had asked for the info to log into the meeting and 13 did so.
There will probably more meetings in this forum in the Future. The software application called Zoom <https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us> 
Members may call into the meeting on their phone. Or they can download an application to their desktop computer, tablet or laptop.

The Zoom website will have all the information you need for downloading. By downloading their app  you can use your computer’s video camera to add a video stream to the meeting

Pension Fund Office reopens

SA Fire & Police Pension Fund Office
The San Antonio Fire and Police Pension Fund announces that operations have now resumed at their office.

The main impact to retirees has been the possibility for meetings about retirement planning and benefits. The pension fund says that retirement meetings may be scheduled with staff, but it still recommends remote meetings — by phone and email — if possible.

If you prefer an in-person meeting, the pension fund asks you to call
shortly before coming to the office. Their number is 210.534.3262.

Health Care  Fund Information

The Fire and Police Retiree Health Care Fund has extended the Telehealth
Benefit due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The benefits (date of services) from March 23, 2020 to August 31, 2020 will
only be considered for payment. This announcement was mailed to every participant in the system. Contact the Fund if you did not receive the letter by mail.

Also included in the Health Fund letter was new info about Alternative
Therapy Program from WELLDYNE.

The purpose of the Fire and Police Retiree Health Care Fund, San Antonio is
to provide retired firefighters and police officers with family health plan.

John C. Millikin – Retired SAPD Officer
John was born on May 19, 1937 in Denver, Colorado and passed away on May 4, 2020 in Spring Branch, Texas.

Memorial Service will be held on July 24, 2020 at 7:00 pm at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX. He is survived by Sandra Millikin (Spouse).

The viewing will start at 5pm and the Memorial at 7pm. Up to 50 can come
into the chapel at once. 

Private graveside services at Ft. Sam.
The family would like the Memorial to be open to as many of John's SAPD
brothers & sisters as possible.

* Covered persons are responsible for certification of hospital admission and outpatient surgeries.
* Pre-certification is required for all inpatient and surgery, whether incurred inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory surgical center or a physician’s office

The San Antonio Fire and Police Pension Fund announces that operations have now resumed at their office. The staff had been performing their jobs remotely to continue pension fund work during the city- and county-ordered shutdowns.
 
The main impact to retirees has been the possibility for meetings about retirement planning and benefits. The pension fund says that retirement meetings may be scheduled with staff, but it still recommends remote meetings — by phone and email — if possible. 
 
“We still recommend an abundance of consideration to safety for the sake of all our members and staff,” said the system’s Facebook post.
 
If you prefer an in-person meeting, the pension fund asks you to call shortly before coming to the office. Their number is 210.534.3262.

As of Thursday, July 2nd, the Board will implement several rules, guidelines and restrictions for all members and guest who visit James Anderson Memorial Park.
These rules, guidelines and restrictions are in accordance with those still in effect and implemented by our elected officials.
The rules, guidelines and restrictions are necessary to assist in addressing the recent surge in COVID cases in Texas, San Antonio, and within the Police Department.
