
![]() Esther F. Celaya January 3, 1946 – February 5, 2022 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mrs. Esther F. Celaya, 92 years of age, who entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Esther was the grandmother of Detective Cynthia Celaya (FIU) of our Department and the mother of Retired Sergeant Ernest Celaya. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, beginning at 5:00 pm at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road. A church service will be held in her honor at Life Church, 4424 SW Loop 410 at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Graveside services will follow at San Fernando Cemetery No. 3. We extend our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. ![]() Eli M. Ortiz Eli Ortiz, age 87, passed away February 14, 2022 in Bulverde, TX. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 10, 1935. He served with the San Antonio Police Department for 42 years, in the Radio Shop as a civilian employee. He assisted FBI, DEA with investigations dealing with communication surveillance. He retired from SAPD and finished his tour as the FCC Southwest Region Radio Communications Coordinator. Eli was always ready to help Law Enforcement The visitation will be at 6 pm, Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with the Rosary to be recited at 7pm. The Funeral Mass will be at 10 am, Thursday, February 24, 2022 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78230. The burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. I am at Dee Willie’s on Hwy 87E just east of FM 1516 in China Grove. They have a big dining area and some tables can be put together for a group. The food is great and priced like most places The sausage is the best I’ve had in awhile. So on February 26, any active or retired SAPD Officer or civilian, and spouses, are welcome to come by, unless anyone knows a better location near the Southeast side. On the End of Watch Anniversary of SAPD Fallen Officers, Cadets conduct a remembrance flag raising at the Memorial Wall. Selected cadet calls out the E.O.W.
(End of Watch) and Name of the Officer(s) being honored that morning. Flags remain at half-staff during operational hours throughout the day. All Officers, SAPD Survivors, Families and Friends are invited to attend. ![]() Kathy Sowell - Wife of Retired Officer Vernon Sowell Family and Friends I've had a unfortunate fall 9 days ago. it could have been worse but I have multiple fractures to my arm and shoulder upon impact. I also face-planted on the parking lot asphalt and sustained contusions and hematomas to forehead and face. CAT scan showed no fractures there or brain bleed Thank you God. after a rough painful journey we have found an excellent Orthopedic surgeon who will do the repairs needed. My Surgery is scheduled for this next Monday.
