Waiver of Fee for Concealed Hand Gun License

House of Rep. Bill – HB 2137 – Waiver Of Fee

Under this Bill that has been introduced by DeWayne Burns it would waive the fee for Honorably Retired Texas Peace Officers
that would like to also have a Texas Concealed Hand Gun License ( LTC ).

Bill was filed on Feb 20, 2019. Last year the fee was waive for Active Officers.

Bill TX86RHB 2137, would waive this fee for Retired Officers wishing to get an LTC.

Family Assistance Officers

SAPD Family Assistance Officers

Currently SAPD has a group of officers who volunteer their time to be members of the Family Assistance Program.
Listed Above in the attachment are specific guidelines to determine when a Family Assistance Officer
enters the life of a Active Member or Retiree to provide assistance.

While life occurrences impact our SAPD Family lives, there are other resources available within the City organization, SAPOA, San Antonio Fire & Police Pension Fund and SA Police Pensioners Asso..

It is the Responsibility of the FAMILY of the Retired Officer to contact the Chief’s Office with arrangements,
NOT the Funeral Home.

For situations that do not fit the criteria above, contact can made with the Chiefs Office at 210-207-7360,
to get clarification if Family Assistance should become involved or another resource utilized.

** Unfortunately there was a recent situation where the Family of a Retiree was told by the Funeral Home they would handled it. They (Funeral home) contacted the Department, which it did, but told the Department THEY (Funeral Home) were handling everything. The Family never contacted the Chief’s Office. There was a last minute scramble and a Honor Guard was put together.

Got this medical update on Brother Tom Tannehill. Tom, now living in Mason, TX, goes under the knife on Tuesday for bypass surgery
at Austin Heart Hospital located at 3801 N. Lamar; and could use our prayers for a successful outcome and recovery.

Hoping that all of his athletic prowess will give him a complete and speedy rehab that worked so well for my son.
May God Bless him and Eva during this challenging time....We're all behind you Bro, and I'll see you soon.

Mother of Retiree David Ramos passes away

Esther Rivas Ramos, Mother Of Retired Officer David Ramos, age 88, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and volunteered in various activities that supported her church. Our hearts are saddened by our loss but we will always cherish her heartening memories. She is survived by her children; Mary Esther Muniz, David Ramos, Jr. wife Connie, Roxane Ramos and Patricia, husband Tony Goodspeed.

An evening service will be held on Wednesday, February 27th beginning at 6:30 PM in the chapel of Porter Loring on McCullough.

On Thursday, February 28th at 10:00 AM, a Funeral Service will be held in the chapel followed by interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery III.

Michael J. Flammia, age 46, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019 in San Antonio, TX. He was born on February 10, 1973, in San Antonio to parents, Harold Flammia, Jr. and Suzanne Rodarte.

Michael J. Flammia is survived by his wife of 20 years Bethany Flammia; his children, Anthony Flammia and G. Flammia; his mother, Suzanne Rodarte and her husband George; his father Harold Flammia, Jr. and his wife, Rosemary; step-brother, Steve Ornelaz and his wife, Lourdes; Brothers-in law, Dennis Shows and his wife, Merlina and Brian Shows and his wife, Kelly; Sister-in-law, Melissa Thurston and her husband, Bryan; along with a large extended family including numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, on Friday, February 15, 2019, at Porter Loring McCullough.

New Key System for Anderson Park - Medina Lake

JAMES ANDERSON MEMORIAL PARK - Key Fob
The new gate operating system will operate using a key fob and will include cameras and an electric opening system.
The lock and key will be used until we have distributed the key fobs and have entered the information into the computer system.
The distribution of the key fobs will begin within the a few weeks. They will have representatives at different locations to issue the key fobs.

The Next Meeting Will Be Held On February 12, Tuesday, at 130pm. (Every Second Tuesday of the Month)

There are generally about 30 to 40 members that religiously attend every monthly Retiree’s meeting. It’s not a very good attendance record since there are over 3000 retirees.
Decisions are being made that impact all retirees; political appointments, PAC contributions to politicians, political discussions, updates on the Pension and Health Funds, the annual luncheon and the welfare of all retirees.
There is a great opportunity to meet old friends and talk about the good old times. After the meeting a good lunch is provided to all attendees by the Retiree’s Association.
