Just talked to Lt David Renken for the second time in a week. He is a lot stronger person than I am and seems to be handling this situation well. His son, John, has covid, and is in intensive care and has been on life support for 37 days. Due to the severity of his condition the family is discussing taking him off life support.

David requested everybody keep him in their prayers

COLA Increase and Potential 13th check

Harry Griffin, Board Member - Fire & Police Pension Fund,
Would you please pass on the following information about our COLA increase and potential 13th Check:
The COLA increase in monthly checks will be seen in each retiree’s check, as of January 31, 2021.  The increase will be 1.4% for older retirees ( those who retired prior to 9/30/99; and 1.1% for those of us who retired after 1999.  You can log into the pension fund website and view the actual dollar amount your monthly pension will  increase....the data is there now.

The preliminary pension fund performance numbers are in for 2020.  It appears we will have greater than a 9% return for the year ended 2020.  This is amazing since our investment performance as of April 2020 was approximately a negative 5%.  In fact, our performance as of September 30, 2020 was .6% ( less than 1% ).  The final quarter of 2020 , provided us with that amazing “V” return and we ended the year with investment performance that should allow the Board to issue a 13th Check.  The Board has not yet met to determine when this check will be issued, but if the positive 9% return holds, as performance numbers come in from our non-publicly traded  investments, I expect we will receive a 13th Check in March 2021.

I will keep you informed if things change, but I expect 2020 investment returns, coupled with the previous 4 years will allow the Board to vote in favor of issuance of a 13th Check.

Regards,
Harry Griffin, Board Member
Fire & Police Pension Fund, San Antonio

Robert “Bob” Jordan (Retired SAPD – Sept 1986)
I don't think he ever got over losing his son, Keith !
His daughter, Ginger, said he was not taking care of himself.
He was scheduled for surgery to save his life. I'm thankful he passed before that horrific surgery took place.
Due to Covid they will limit the number of people  that can attend his funeral. As soon as I know details, I'll let you know.
Anyway, take care, stay safe and healthy !

Good News from Suzanne Hildebrand
Hello Armando. I know many people are having reservations about taking the Covid vaccine due to concerns about side effects.
I thought I’d let you know I had the first injection of the Pfizer vaccine on December 23 and have had absolutely no side effects.
I am scheduled for the second one on January 13. I truly hope everyone will take the vaccine.
Of course, I’ve been hoping everyone would take the necessary precautions and obviously they haven’t when I look at the surge numbers.

He has been hospitalized since with serious injuries, 12 broken ribs, lung injury, broken jaw. He is on a respirator, has had pneumonia, is on a feeding tube and cannot talk. No visitors are allowed, including his wife.

From The SAPOA :
 Dear SAPOA Member,
As you all are aware, there is a group out there, “FIX SAPD,” which is currently canvassing San Antonio neighborhoods to gather signatures for a petition that would force a referendum on the May 2021 Municipal Ballot to Repeal Chapters 143 (Civil Service) and Chapter 174 (Collective Bargaining) for San Antonio Police Officers.  For nearly 6 months now, SAPOA has been working to inform voters about the dangers of such an effort.
Now, as the anti-police activists accelerate their work towards achieving their goals, we need all SAPOA members to be aware that this is occurring and informed about what it will mean to Active, Retiree’s and your Family if they’re successful.
To that end, we need all of you to follow these social media accounts, go to  backsablue.com  and stay informed on these important activities.
We’ll be updating you from time to time on the progress of their efforts as well as our own to oppose them.

Ronnie Grenrood passes away

Ronnie Grenrood, worked in SAPD Finance Office for many years.

December 2020
He was moved to a surgical ICU after testing positive for COVID19. Since then he has gone into multi-organ failure.  I wish I had better news for everyone. Our hearts are breaking into so many pieces right now. Dad has taken a turn for the worse.
His doctors have upped all his meds as much as possible at this point, but he is no longer responding to anything. His ventilator has completely taken over his breathing for him. We are still praying for a miracle and we ask that you keep sending prayers.
Thank everyone for all your love through this incredibly difficult time.
January 2021
This is from one of Ronnie’s daughters:
At this time, no funeral arrangements have been made yet for our dad Ronald Grenrood .
It will probably be a couple weeks before anything can be done due to the rising cases of COVID in San Antonio and the number of deaths that have also risen.
We have multiple family members with health concerns, we are planning on doing an immediate family only service at the gravesite.
Once we have something in place though, we will post the information.
Thank you all for your love, support, and generosity during our difficult time.
