JAMES ANDERSON MEMORIAL PARK – Temporary Closure
The San Antonio Police Benevolent Fund has approved a new gate operating system to better manage access to James Anderson Memorial Park.
In order to install the new gate James Anderson Memorial Park will be closed for a week, starting Monday, February 4th through Friday, February 8th, 2019.
The new gate operating system will operate using a key fob and will include cameras and an electric opening system.  Though we are installing the new system next week,
we will continue to use the lock and key until we have distributed the key fobs and have entered the information into the computer system.
The distribution of the key fobs will begin within the next week or two.  We will have representatives at different locations to issue the key fobs.
We will announce the dates and locations. For any additional questions please contact Officer Travis Reich at (210) 428-0380. Thank you.

Rachel (Rocky) Kokal, Wife of Retired Officer Joseph Kokal

Retired SAPD Officer Joe Kokal, informed me that his wife Rocky had passed away.
Rocky had been multiple serious physical afflictions for over 15 years, with Joe right by her side.  She had spent over 13 years on blood dialysis waiting for kidney transplants (she had 2 of them),
that gave her limited reprieve from the ravages of the long term treatments. Complications began setting in several months ago, to the point to where her mobility was severely affected.

Joe taking leave from the college district last August to care for her 24/7.  Witnessing the fortitude of both of them for many years has left an indelible respect for the love and tenacity in their spirits.
Joe has been very private in the course of this journey, has shouldered an incredible responsibility without falter or complaint, and is understandably overwhelmed at the moment.

I pass this along for the awareness of his brothers and sisters in blue, and to request prayers for God's peace and comfort for Joe, family, and friends.

  • Services will be at Mission Park South 1700 SE Military Dr., San Antonio, TX 78214. Telephone: (210) 924-4242
  • Viewing: Feb 04, 2019 from 500pm – 900pm
  • Services: Mission Park South Chapel, at 300pm w/ interment at Mission Park South afterwards

Prayers will go a long way boys. Sad day; damn good cop and a great guy.

Update: Al Carnot, Retired SAPD, Condition related to a recent heat attack

Al is at home. Unfortunately he’ll need another catheterization/ angioplasty done. He has had two previous heart attacks and has eight stents in his heart.
He’s not a candidate for bypass because of cancer. He’s a bit depressed and calls from fellow officers would really be an uplift.
Al decided to have procedure done after his party and Houston trip.
Thank you for caring and your friendship
God bless.  Al Carnot,   Mobile 210-396-1330

Memorial Festival & Car Show

9th Annual Memorial Festival & Open Car Show – March 09,2018. Open to the Public - SAPD Academy, from 1100am – 400pmThe purpose of the Memorial Festival is to create a fun-filled day for the children, families and friends of fallen officers to share with the community.
It is an opportunity for the community and friends of SAPD survivor families to show them that they are not forgotten.

Primarily, funds raised are to support the family of any fallen SAPD officer when their name is placed on the national memorial wall. During the month of May, National Police Week is an annual event in Washington D.C.

Our committee is dedicated to ease any logistics and financial concerns of our survivors and to express our support beyond the Memorial Festival itself.  Areas available will include a cultural/ historical area (volunteer organizations in the community), children’s play area (bounce houses, games) raffle, food booths, vendors (t-shirts, arts, crafts) and a car show on the police driving track.
Guests may purchase tickets for rides and games or an all-day pass. Sponsorship and donations are also welcome for a raffle, children’s games and events throughout the day.
The highest donors/sponsors will be presented these memorial flags encased with the event logo.

This is a unique opportunity for the citizens of San Antonio and surrounding areas, current SAPD officers and the survivor families to celebrate family and community.
We are asking for your support to make this event a continued success and give the survivor families a way to remember their loved one in a positive and fun environment.
