The San Antonio Police Officers’ Association Blue Cares Scholarship (formerly SAPOA Benefit Fund Scholarship) was created in memory of Officer Patricia Calderon

The SAPOA Blue Cares Scholarship continues to honor all San Antonio Police Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
We keep their memories alive by awarding college scholarships to deserving applicants wishing to further their education.
Each year, the San Antonio Police Officers’ Association Blue Cares Scholarship awards up to $6,000 to five recipients. Four recipients receive a non-renewable $1,000 scholarship and one recipient receives a nonrenewable $2,000 scholarship.

Retiree needs your prayers

Maurice (Reece) Rose is not in good health. He's had trouble walking for some time now. He has been moved to an assisted living facility.

According to family members, he had lost ten pounds over the last few weeks and isn't eating. He is in and out of lucidity.
The Family would not divulge his whereabouts stating that he needed some rest, but would probably accept visitors next week if his condition improves.

If you would like to send a card, (for safety purposes) contact CoffeeCops.net and we will give you his address. Please say a prayer for him today. He is a warrior and someone we all like very much. He is definitely one of the " Good Guys " we ever worked with.
Thanks,
Mike Ross

Attention - Retired Officers still in Law Enforcement

For you Retired Officers still on the job with different Departments or Agencies, Here’s interesting Info released by CLEAT ; About Personal Electronic Devices.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CLEAT’s Response to SB 944
By CLEAT General Counsel Robert Leonard
Why Recent Changes To The Texas Public Information Act Should Have All Officers Refusing
To Use Their Own Personal Electronic Devices For Work
Recently we have received several inquiries from officers regarding the newly passed SB 944. What is SB 944? SB 944 added several amendments to the Texas
Public Information Act (commonly referred to as an Open Records Request). One change has a direct impact on all officers.
Specifically, it amends Section 552.003 of the Texas Government Code by adding a subdivision (7).
According to the Senate Research Center the newly created 552.003 subsection
(7) “Requires a current or former officer or employee of a governmental body who maintains public information on a privately owned device to forward or transfer the public information to the governmental body or a governmental body server to be preserved as provided by Subsection (a) or to preserve the public information in its original form in a backup or archive and on
the privately owned device for the time described under Subsection (a).”
In a nutshell SB 944 allows governmental agencies to retrieve public information from their employees’ personal electronic devices such as cell phones, tablets, or personal computers. It covers communications such as texts, tweets, and emails. If the device contains information that
is subject to public disclosure under the Public Information Act then employee and the employer must preserve it and make it available for disclosure.
It is the information on the device not the type of device or who owns it that controls whether it is subject to the Public Information Act. What is even more troubling is that downloading the information to your agency’s server will not be enough.
The new law requires the officer to maintain the information on the device for a defined period. Failure to preserve the information could result in possible criminal charges.
Using our personal electronic devices or home computers to assist us in our work has become “the norm.”  However, given the implications SB 944 presents it is foolish for officers to utilize their personal electronic devices for official work purposes. Combine that with the recent case law developing around the country regarding criminal defense attorneys who subpoena officers’ phones due to possible evidence on the device and you can see why using your own personal electronic devices for work is a bad idea.
If officers require a cell phone or tablet to perform their job, they need to request the department issue them one.
As always you CLEAT stands ready to assist our members should you have any questions or run into any problems after the new law is put into effect.
Honor Flight for WWII Vets
Honor Flight
Some of our nation’s heroes will be taking a “trip of a lifetime” to Washington, D.C on September 6 – 7, 2019.  It’s all part of Honor Flight San Antonio.
Honor Flight San Antonio is a non-profit organization whose mission is to take every willing and able hero to see their designated memorials in Washington, D.C.
 We would like to send them off and welcome them home in style and are looking for volunteers to come out to the Airport for both events.
These events have been very successful in the past with volunteers showing up to send these heroes to Washington, D.C. and then to welcome them home.
The SAPD Pipe and Drums band will lead the Veterans procession to the checkpoint, and onto the departing gate.
If you would like to greet the veterans before they depart or attend the return ceremony at the San Antonio International Airport, here are the details:
Friday, September 6 – Veterans begin arriving in Terminal A at 5:00 am and their Southwest Flight #855 departs at 7:15 am.
Saturday, September 7 – Return United Airlines flight #511 will arrive at 8:50 pm and there will be a Welcome Home Reception in the upper level of Terminal B.
If you have any questions about this event, please contact either Lt. Curtis Walker, SAPD, or the undersigned.
 PAUL BIASIOLLI, SAPD CAPTAIN
AIRPORT POLICE COMMANDER
Michael Bratton Memorial Golf Tournament - Monday, October 14, 2019
The 7th Michael Bratton Memorial Golf Tournament provides a fun, challenging experience for golfers of all skills.  It’s a great day with greater purpose: bringing awareness to dementia and dollars for research.
As a relatively new disease, it often goes un-diagnosed as it did with Michael. Frontotemporal dementia (FTD),is a degenerative brain disease affecting a younger population. The frontal and temporal lobes control judgement and social behavior. Unfortunately, without diagnosis, sufferers can lose their family, finances, and careers; suicide is also not uncommon with those suffering from frontal lobe dementia.
Registration Preview Auction Items 10:00am – 11:45am. Tee Time 12:00 noon.
